VOLume 1 summer 2015

After this a proper G! Festival started and other
festivals around the country have also emerged. Some
of them didn’t live very long, but still the islanders
and guests in the Faroe Islands have a varied festival
programme during the summer.
The biggest festival today is the Summar Festivalurin
in Klaksvík, which normally hosts famous popp- and
rocknames. This year the swedish popp band Roxette
is the main attractionn, and previous years the main
attractions have been names such as Westlife, The
Scorpions, Ronan Keating, Kim Larsen and Twisted Sister.
The G! Festival has been held annualy since 2002 and
the festival has had a more modern and progressiv
programme than other festivals in the islands. Among
those performing at the festival have been names such
as Europe, Nephew, Lisa Ekdahl, Travis and Blind Boys of
Alabama.
International musicians
Some of the most famous faroese musicians have also
made a name of themselves outside the islands.
During the latter years these are names such as Týr,
Eivør, Teitur, Lena and Hamferð.
Teitur
After a period as a normal musician in a rockgroup that
performed at various arrangements in the Faroe Islands,
Teitur Lassen took the step from being the vocalist in a
band to performing on his own.
In 2003 he signed an international record contract
and released his first album abroad. Since then he has
regularly been on tour all over the world.
Teitur is a recognized songwriter as well as performer
abroad, and even if he has settled down in the Faroe
Islands, the world around him has always had a firm grip
on him.
Eivør
The most famous female singer in the islands is Eivør
Pálsdóttir who is an extraordinary talent. She started
her career in a band and in a songcontest, but she
soon blossomed into a fantastic solo singer, who then
developed into a strong songwriter.
There is no doubt that the main instrument in her
music is her own voice. She can easily almost hypnotize
a whole crowd with her voice and it doesn’t affect her, if
she is performing in a small church or on a big stage.
Eivør has also performed a lot abroad. Both in
Iceland and in Denmark she is well known, and she also
impressed on concerts elsewhere in Europe.
