May - 31. August BOAT TRIPS: Every Tuesday and Thursday mornings from May to August, the restored schooner Norðlýsið offers sightseeing sail tours. On Tuesday afternoons there is a concert trip to the huge grottoes on Hestur which have been carved out by the waves. Occasionally Norðlýsið sails a full day trip to Stóra Dímun or some other small islands. FISHING TRIPS: Whether fishing for cod, hali but or shark, a fishing trip in the Faroe Islands is something quite special. Contact the organizers: www.fishingwithblastein.com or the tourist information to arrange a fishing trip. BUS TOURS: Tora Tourist has a weekly program from May to August that includes the Northern Isles: Klaksvík and Viðareiði, Eysturoy: Eiði, Gjógv and Oyndarfjørður, Streymoy: Vestmanna, Kvívík, Kirkjubøur and Tórshavn, in addition to the villages on Sandoy. The guided bus tours may include museum visits and/or a meal. Brochures available at tourist information centres. Also, you can find various daily bus tours at www.excursions.fo RIDING TREKS: Berg Hestar arranges a variety of treks with experienced guides in and around Tórshavn, including Havnardalur and Glyvursnes. Contact the tourist information or Berg Hestar directly. BIRD WATCHING TOURS: You can encounter a wide range of bird species on Nólsoy including the world’s largest colony of Storm Petrels. They are only seen at night, but tours are available by arrangement with the local ornithologist. Contact the tourist information for bookings. HIKING AND WALKING TOURS: Tinganes: Guided walks can be arranged with Visit Tórshavn around the old town and Tinganes, where the Vikings lived their daily lives. Skælingsfjall: Around mid- summer it is possible to arrange a guide with Visit Tórshavn for a midnight trip to the top of Skælingsfjall mountain (768 m). The tour is quite strenuous and not for those who are afraid of heights. TOURS FROM VESTMANNA: The boat trip to the cliffs north of Vestmanna will give you a fantastic experience of the bird cliffs and sailing between the free-standing rocks and into deep grottos. There are several departures in the summer, weather permitting. This is operated by Skúvadal, and you will find more information at www.puffin.fo Vestmanna Tourist Centre houses the only wax museum in the Faroe Islands, the new SagaMuseum. Through 17 very life like figures, placed in very realistic surroundings you can follow the history of the Faroe Islands from the very first settlers came here up to our times. The museum is open every day this summer from 9 am to 5 pm.. TOURS ON NÓLSOY: A walk to Borðan: The tourist office on Nólsoy arranges hiking tours to the Nólsoy lighthouse Nólsoyar Viti, which was built in 1893. When it was built the lens was one of the largest in the world. No one lives in Borðan now - except for the many sheep, birds and a few hares. Nettle picking: An easier tour when in Nólsoy is a nettle- picking tour - a two hour stroll with a basket, scissors and glows, where the conversation centers around edible plants in the surroundings. The tour ends at the cafe, where you will grill nettle-pizza together. Hike to the eastside of Nólsoy with a guide: This part of Nólsoy is scarred by heavy surf and stands in contrast to the mild west side, that is visible from Tórshavn. You will hike through the old settlement in Cornvalley, where legends say that a Scottish princess once lived, the historical execution place on the Cross and the world’s largest storm petrel colony in Hvíturð - you will not see any storm petrels during the day, since they are only active during the night, but you might hear them. Then the walk continues south to Bóltstaður, where puffins and fulmar might be spotted in their natural environment. You also have an opportunity to visit some of the interesting places in the village. Contact VisitNolsoy for booking and more information. The tours are arranged on demand.
