Tórshavn is at
least a day’s
trip. From restaurants
to museums, historic
monuments to live
music, Tórshavn is a city
packed full of events to
attend and many places
to see. It is a city with a
vibrant cultural life and an
exciting food scene. Make

NORÐLÝSIÐ
Explore the Faroe
Islands by sea in
a old schooner to
the soundtrack of a
classical music. Every
Tuesday and Sunday
during the summer the
schooner Norðlýsið
sets sails from the boat
harbour in Tórshavn
for sea caves under
Nólsoy or Hestur. The
passangers will go in
smaller boats into the
caves with classical
musicians, who will
perform a live concert
in the sea cave. These
trips are limited to 12
passengers and take
place – if weather
permits - every Tuesday
and Sunday between
the 6th of June and
20th august. It is
recommended to buy

KIRKJUBØUR
On the west side of
Suðurstreymoy the old
capital of Kirkjubøur
offers travellers an
insight into the old
history and culture of
the islands. The history
is still visible today
in the remains of the
medieval St Magnus
Cathedral. Furthermore
with the oldest church
in the Faroe Islands,
St Olav’s church, and
the oldest wooden
house in the world,
Kirkjubøargarðurin, both
of them dating back to
the 1110, Kirjkubøur is
home to some of the
best-kept historical
buildings in the Faroe
Islands.
NÓLSOY
The small island to east
of the capital has for
centuries served as a
natural guardian for
the capital against the
Atlantic Ocean. Today
its home to a charming
local community with a
lively cultural scene. The
ferry Ternan departs
from Tórshavn harbour
and to Nólsoy several
times a day.

BREAKFAST AT THE BOAT
HARBOUR
Start your day with breakfast at the boat harbour.
Enjoy observing the daily life in the world smallest
capital with small boats sailing in and out of the
harbour. Most cafes open their doors at 9 in the
morning an offer a rich variety of breakfasts,
sandwiches, baked goods, salads and cakes.
TINGANES AND THE HILLS
After finishing your morning coffee go for a stroll out to
Tinganes, which is home for the Faroese government. If
you are lucky you may meet the Faroese prime minister,
løgmaður in Faroese, when walking outside his office.
Tinganes is on the tip of Reyni, which is the old part
of Tórshavn, and is the area characterized by its small
houses, narrow streets, grass roofs and beautiful red
buildings.
If you prefer to take a walk in nature, then put on
your walking shoes and head to one of the several
hiking trails in the hills and the mountains surrounding
Tórshavn which offer a panoramic view of the island of
Nólsoy.
THE NATIONAL MUSEUM
The national museum of the Faroe Islands is situated
only 10 minutes walk from the city centre. On your way
to the museum walk through the plantation, which is
the largest of its kind on the islands. In the middle of
the park there is pond, where ducks and swans live. The
national museum is on the other side of the plantation
and has in its collection of paintings, drawings,
sculptures, and graphics some of the greatest works of
Faroese artists.
DINE IN THE OLD TOWN
Faroese gastronomy is on its way up and forward in
the world with the two stars Michelin-restaurant Koks
leading the charge. Beside Koks there are several
restaurants situated in the old town which offer a
memorable dining experience combining a high level
of service and professionalism with fresh Faroese
products. Located no more than 2 minutes from each
others are Ræst, which serves fermented Faroese food,
Áarstova, a lamb and seafood restaurant, Barbara,
the best fish restaurant in the country, and Katrina
Christiansen, which serves Spanish tapas-cuisine with
influence from Faroese food tradition and products.
