BOAT TOURS:
From May to August, the
breathtaking beautiful soaring
cliffs of Sandoy and Skúvoy
become a veritable seabird
paradise for guillemot, puffin,
cormorant, fulmar and
razor- bill. Weather conditions
permitting, the Hvíthamar sails
along the coast of Sandoy or
around Skúvoy. On the trip
there is a good chance that
you will encounter curious or
slumbering seals. Contact Jóan
Petur Clementsen, local boat
builder, for details. The tourist
office also arranges a number
of tours.
HIKING TOURS:
Visit Sandoy arranges different
guided hikes, including a trip
to Høvdarhagi on the west
coast of Sandoy, where one
can experience a magnificent
vista toward the bird cliffs
from Skopun to Sandur. If you
prefer to hike on your own, you
can hike the marked paths in
Skopun and Søltuvík, both with
scenic views of sea stacks, bird
cliffs and the islands west and
south of Sandoy.
We also recommend the old
village path between Dalur and
Skarvanes. Please remember
to ask Visit Sandoy or a local
before going on a hike.
On Sandoy, Skúvoy and Stóra
Dímun you can follow in the
footsteps of the ancient sagas,
many of which go back to the
Viking and Chieftain times on
the Faroese. You can experience
the meeting of past and
present. Many fantastic sagas
were set in the magnificent
nature of these three islands.
RAPELLING AND KAYAKING:
If you enjoy extreme sports
and a challenge, then you can
go rappelling from a height
of 300m on the western side
of Sandoy at Lonin, if weather
permits. The tour, which takes
approximately 5-6 hours, leads
you through beautiful scenery
and gives you a chance to
enjoy some Faroese food. Find
out more about rappelling
for groups at the local tourist
information. The tour can also
be arranged without rappelling,
if you prefer to enjoy the nature
with both feet on the ground!
You can also kayak on lake
Sandsvatn, the third largest
lake in the Faroe Islands.
There are 20 kayaks for
rent, with or without guide,
available via Visit Sandoy and
GuideToFaroeIslands.
FAROESE EVENING:
Traditional kvøldseta or evening
gatherings are offered regularly
featuring traditional food and
different aspects of the old
Faroese culture such as wool
spinning, carding, etc. Guest will
also have the opportunity to
participate in the Faroese chain
dance with villagers from the
isolated and unique village Dalur.
Arrangements can be made
with Visit Sandoy.
