He also serves as the Executive Director of the fulltime MBA, the part-time MBA and the Program for Leadership Development (PLD). He worked for DaimlerChrysler and was a top management consultant before pursuing his PhD in international management at the University of St. Gallen. He subsequently joined IMD in Lausanne and thereafter became the director of the Henley Centre for Creative Destruction, which innovates strategies to drive markets, at the Henley Management College in the UK. He has held visiting academic appointments at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Bangalore and Hosei University in Tokyo. Wolfgang Amann’s primary expertise and interests lie in the areas of successful internationalisation through the development of strategic success positions (SSP), the choice of the right path for growth and internationalisation and managing complexities in globalising companies. He has a particular interest in how ownership (family businesses, private equity, venture capital companies, etc.) and life cycle stages impact these aspects. He has directed, delivered and contributed to open and in-company programmes on complexity, strategy, internationalisation, and governance in the USA, Europe, Africa, China, India and Japan. Clients included DaimlerChrysler, Deutsche Bank, DuPont, DSG, Holcim, IBM, the World Bank/IFC, Qiagen or Vodafone, among others. He has (co-)authored more than 80 case studies for these programmes and his case series on Unilever in India won the 2006 oikos case-writing competition. In 2006 and 2007, his course ‘Corporate Strategy and Governance’ was chosen as the CEMS course of the year among all CEMS business schools in 17 top European countries. His most recent publications on ’Managing complexity in global organisations’ and ’Corporate Governance - how to add value’ were published by Wiley.
