Nr. 99 • 27. mai 2009 7 -“We stress the importance of creating a good framework, both for exhibitors and visitors alike”, says Mr Petur Mohr Reinert, who is one of the organisers of this large fishing exhibition, to be held over the days, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. One of the main aspects for improving the framework was to relocate the exhibition to Gundadal. Previously this exhibition has been held in Rúnavík and “Uppi á Hjalla”, but this year will see a completely new exhibition, under a different framework and with new exhibitors. The name of the exhibition is “Fish Expo Faroes 2009” and it will be held in two large adjoining tents, which have been erected on one of the football pitches in Gundadal. It is only a short, almost non-existent uphill walk, from the centre of Tórshavn. Apart from the interior exhibition, there are also exterior exhibitors, showing trawl-doors, forklifts and other larger items. However, there will also be live demonstration boats/vessels in the harbour at Vágsbotn, where a variety of interesting features can be observed. At Vágsbotn, the Life & Rescue Association will demonstrate their capabilities and the odd lucky passenger will be taken for a trip in their vessel. Near the heart of Tórshavn Even if the exhibition organisers are new, the exhibition will be recognisable, as the theme will basically be the same as in foregoing exhibitions. By relocating the exhibition to Gundadal, the exhibition has come as near to the heart of the capital as is physically possible, with such a large- scale event. There are good parking facilities in the vicinity. -“The objective of moving the exhibition to Gundadal, is to take it right into town and make it an integrated part of Tórshavn”, says Mr Petur Mohr Reinert. He expects this will have a different more familiar effect upon the exhibition. -We also believe it will be much easier for visitors to visit the exhibition, as it so to speak is located in the middle of Tórshavn. It will also be easier for exhibitors and the clients/customers to meet. Not least, it will make the exhibition more amenable for exhibitors and visitors, as Gundadal is close to the restaurants, coffee shops, shops, institutions, companies and all the other amenities Tórshavn has to offer. Exactly this aspect ought not to underestimated, says Mr Reinert, because the basis for a large part of the connections established at such an exhibition, derive from the more unofficial and social environment. -“We have had an excellent relationship with the Town Council, and it is through the council that we have been given the football pitch and its affiliated amenities for the exhibition. The Town Council has invited the exhibitors to a reception dinner at the cosy converted Müllers warehouse on the first exhibition day evening. On Thursday evening, there will also be a Gala Dinner at Hotel Føroya for the exhibitors. Overall we estimate these activities will present both the exhibitors and visitors with a much better opportunity to establish connections”, says the organiser. He is of the opinion that this will also present Faroe companies, which have turned their eyes abroad, with a golden opportunity to tie connections. Larger and more diverse Mr Reinert says this exhibition is fully comparable with previous exhibitions, he even estimates it is both larger and more diverse than the previous exhibitions held. He is very satisfied with this, particularly when bearing in mind the adverse global economic times, and that both industry and normal households are exerting extreme caution, when it comes to spending money. -“When we began preparing for this exhibition late last summer, there was no problem in acquiring exhibitors, both from the Faroes and abroad”, he says, -“but in October things stagnated completely, and several exhibitors even cancelled their participation”. For a period, things were looking so bleak that they even considered cancelling the event. -“At the turn of the year however, things began to pick up again and almost every exhibitor, which had previously cancelled, renewed their participation, apart from several other new exhibitors signing up”. The organiser believes that after the exhibitors had recovered from the initial shock and had time to think, they most likely reached the conclusion that it was important to participate and tone the flag. He is also of the opinion that another reason could be that they did not evaluate the situation quite as bleak as originally thought. Another reason is that although much of industry is in crisis, the fishing industry in our neighbouring countries is not - not even in Iceland, which has been particularly hard-hit. International industry Many exhibitors come from the Faroes, but there are also many from the other Nordic countries, England and Scotland. Many companies share a stand and many are well connected abroad, so in reality there are exhibitors from many countries. There is an entry fee of D.kr. 150.- An exhibition pass is available, which covers all three-exhibition days and costs D.kr. 350.- International industry rende zvous in Gunda dali skal heldur ikki undirmetast, held ur Petur Mohr Reinert, tí grundar lagið fyri einum stórum parti av teimum sambondum, ið verða knýtt á eini stevnu, sum hesari, verður lagt undir meiri óformligum og sosialum um støðum. - Vit hava eisini havt gott samstarv við kommununa, tí tað er í samstarvi við hana, vit hava fingið vøllin til fram sýn- ingina og allar hent leikarnar rund an um vøllin. Samstundis er tað kommun- an, sum bjóðar øll um fram sýn- ar um til saman sjóð ing arveitslu í tí hugnaliga Müllers pakkhúsi tann fyrsta fram sýningardagin. Men hóskvøldið verður so eisini gallaveitsla á Hotel Før- oyum fyri øllum fram sýnarum. - Samanlagt meta vit, at hetta gevur bæði framsýnarum og vitjandi nógv betri møgu- leikar at knýta sambond, sigur fyri skiparin. Men hann heldur eisini, at hetta fer at geva føroyskum fyri tøkum, sum hava vent eygu ni út í heim, ein gyltan møgu leika at knýta sambond. Størri og fjøl broyttari Petur Mohr Reinert sigur, at stevn an hesuferð er fult á hædd við tær, sum hava verið. Hann metir enntá, at hon helst bæði størri og fjølbroyttari, enn áður. Og tað er hann væl nøgdur við, serliga tá ið hugsað verð- ur um, at tíðirnar ikki eru av teimum bestu og at bæði vinnu lív og vanlig húski vísa størs ta varsemi, tá ið tað kem- ur til at brúka pening. - Tá ið vit fóru undir at fyri- reika stevnuna seint síðsta summar, gekk væl at fáa fram- sýn arar, bæði í Føroyum og uttan lands, sigur hann - Men í oktober kom full- komi liga stígur í og tað var enn tá so, at nógvir framsýnarar av lýstu luttøkuna. Hann sigur, at eitt skifti sá so svart út, at teir enntá umhugsaðu at avlýsa tiltakið. - Men eftir árskiftið kom so gongd á aftur og næstan øll, sum avlýstu, hava meldað til aftur, umframt fleiri nýggir framsýnarar. Fyriskiparin heldur, at tá ið vinnulívsfólk vóru komin yvir tann fyrsta skelkin og fingu summað seg, eru tey helst kom in til ta niðurstøðu kortini, at tað er umráðandi at vera við og vísa flaggið. Men hann heldur, at ein or- søk kann eisini vera, at tey eru kanska ikki heilt so svartskygd kortini. Hann heldur kortini eisini, at eitt, sum ger seg galdandi, er, at hóast nógv vinnulív er í kreppu, stendur heilt væl til í fiskivinnuni í londunum rundan um okkum, eisini í Íslandi, ið annars er sera hart rakt. Altjóða vinnulív Nógvir framsýnarar eru úr Før- oyum, men tað eru eisini heilt nógvir framsýnarar úr hinum Norðan londunum, Onglandi og Skotlandi. Men nógvar fyritøkur hava felags básar og hava nógv samstarv út í heim, so í veru- leikanum eru framsýnarar úr heilt nógvum londum. Annars kostar tað 150 krónur at fara á framsýningina, men tað ber eisini til at keypa stevnupass fyri allar tríggjar dagarnar og tað kostar 350 krónur. This year the large reoccurring fishing industry exhibition has been relocated into Tórshavn. Thereby it becomes an integrated part of the town scene of the capital, and it will be easier to access for both exhibitors and visitors
