8 ONS 2008 Sosialurin 21. august 2008 For the third time in secession the Tórshavn Town Council will participate in the oil exhibition ONS. This time the Tórshavn Town Council will cooperate with the Rúnavík Town Council regarding a presentation in the pavilion on the harbour in Stavanger. The harbour environment is intended for those who are interested in continuing to work during the evening in a more relaxed atmosphere. -We wish to create a relaxed atmosphere, which will give people a taste of the Faroes, says Ms Katrina í Geil, coordinator for the Tórshavn Town Council. The Faroe pavilion tent will house Faroe design, good food and entertainment. Music will be performed by the well-known female Faroe singer Lena Anderssen, the exciting new Crawling Blue group and not least by the “grand old man” within Faroese folk-music Mr Hanus G. Johansen. Food will be organised by the Faroe hotel, Hotel Føroyar, and businessmen will be able to invite foreign clients for an exquisite culnary experience in the Faroe pavilion. The old Faroe sloop Westward Ho will also arrive in Bergen and onboard there will be entertainment. Lena becoming noticed Ms Lena Anderssen has been given the honour of participating in the ONS opening concert. According to the original plan, only Norwegian groups were to participate in the concert, but concert organisers thought Lena Anderssen was so interesting, they wanted to include her in the opening concert. -This is of course an acknowledgement and endorsement for both Lena and the Faroe music industry”, confirms the Tórshavn Town Council coordinator. With a Faroese mother, Canadian father and Norwegian grandparents, Lena Anderssen is a musical hybrid. Her latest and much-praised album, Let Your Scars Dance, was partly recorded at London’s legendary Abbey Road studios, and has been voted album of the year in the Faroes. Avantgarde design Three Faroese designers will participate in the presentation, Ms Malan á Lofti, Ms Barbara í Gongini and Sirri. Sirri is a brand, which only deals with products made from Faroese wool. The company began its activities in 2000 and since then the purpose of its production has been to produce different modern designs created by international and Faroese designers. Barbara í Gongini is a Faroese designer based in Denmark. Her company, with the same name, creates Nordic clothing based on a conceptual approach to the process, where experiments with forms provide the setting for the visual motive in the design. Malan á Lofti is a young Faroese designer who makes her collections using skin and wool from the Faroe sheep. Her designs are deeply rooted in the natural colours and materials of the Faroe Islands at the same time as she is setting new standards with her unique and innovative designs. It is not just a Faroe oil industry participating at ONS in Stavanger. The international oil world will also be given the opportunity to experience Faroese culture.
