This leaflet will be available at arrival­ and departure halls in the Faroes and will also be accessible online at; www.taks.fo. As from 1st. of October 2008, it will not be allowed to import cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, tobacco or any other kind of tobacco duty­free. All travellers carrying tobacco are obliged to declare these products to the custom officers and pay the relevant tax. The process of notifying the authorities is by going through the RED TOLL GATE ­ GOODS TO DECLARE. If you go through the GREEN TOLL GATE ­ NOTHING TO DECLARE, it implies you have nothing to declare. If however, you are subjected to a random check, and declarable goods discovered, this will be regarded as a violation of the tax Legislation Act. Violation is normally settled with a fine, which is equal to double that of the original tax due, in addition to the actual tax amount. For example, the current price for a carton of 200 cigarettes is DKK 380.00 If the traveller does not declare and is subsequently apprehended by the Custom authorities, then the violation fine would be DKK 760.00 + the orginal duty of DKK 380.00 The total fine would amount to DKK 1.140.00. This change to the Customs regulations comes into effect by official decree no. 47 of the 28th. of May 2008, and as later changed by decree no. 59 of the 9th of June 2008, regarding which duty­free goods travellers may bring into the Faroes.
